Pullar Builders Whakatane vs Te Awamutu
Pullar Builders Whakatane Town FC vs TeAwamutu 26 June 2010
In front of a big home crowd, Puller Builders Whakatane Town FC has taken all three points against visitors TeAwamutu. In the 2009 season TeAwamutu proved themselves to be tough, taking full points from Whakatane in both home and away fixtures. Whakatane Town approached the match with a point to prove, eager to overcome this archillles heel. Whakatane Town dictated play in the first half continuing their run of good form over the last few weeks. The first goal came early in the match when a well flighted far post cross from Wade Molony was headed home by Richard O’Raegan. Whakatane Mc Donalds, Video Ezy and Bella Design player of the day Wouter Vullings, scored the second, linking onto the end of a well played through ball, beating the advancing keeper and placing the ball into an empty goal. Richard O’Raegan showed great composure to shrug off his defender and casually chip the keeper and put the game to rest shortly before half time with what was to be the final goal of the game. After the half time break Whakatane continued to create opportunities on goal with some surging forward movement from young Wade Molony. Player-Coach and Manager Werner Rechsteiner was unlucky when a skilful lob beat the keeper to be denied by the woodwork. Other chances were well constructed and thwarted only by some superb goal keeping from Te Awamutu’s young shot stopper. A strong defensive effort throughout the game from Marc Burgees, Michael Sims and Paul Taylor held all attacks at bay protecting Whakatane’s convincing lead and confirming Whakatane Town as the team with the best goal difference in the league. With a game in hand over the leading placed team, the 3-0 win places Whakatane Town second on the leader board behind Rotorua.
