Jubilee Cup A Success

The Junior Club held its annual 11th Grade Jubilee Cup tournament on the 18th June. The Jubilee Cup was donated by Jim Carlin - a life member of the club - to commemorate the 50th Jubilee of the club in 2004. The cup is retained at the Whakatane Town Soccer Clubrooms with winners name engraved onto it.
 
Twelve teams participated in this tournament from Taupo, Rotorua, Papamoa, Tauranga, Mt Maunganui, Opotiki, Ohope and Whakatane. All teams played 5 pool games with Taupo, Mount Blades, Ohope and Blue Rover Bluez making it through to the semi finals with Taupo and Blue Rover Bluez emerging as our finalists.
 
The final was hard fought with both teams playing in a spirited manner. Goals gained came after some fierce battles on the pitch with some magnificent goal keeping by the Taupo keeper. The final score was 5 - 1 to the Blue Rover Bluez, winners of the 2006 Jubilee Cup. The presentation of the medals to the Taupo and Blue Rover Bluez teams was made by Jim Carlin.
 
The junior club would like to thank Norm Howe, Ted Turfrey, Wayne Wills, Ian Finch and Graham Moore for refereeing the games. Thanks to LJ Hookers for the use of their canopy and the Whakatane Harrier and Athletic Club for the use of their clubrooms.
